‘meeting from the inside’ with Rajni Shah

The third workshop of the ‘for the listen to live here’ series is guided by performance maker and researcher Rajni Shah (they/them). Rajni is queer, quiet, trans non-binary, and a feminist killjoy. They care about listening and gathering as creative and political acts.

Together with shy*play, Shah will facilitate pathways towards meeting each other from the inside. The session begins by finding a comfortable place among large hanging fabrics or outside in nature. From there, participants will listen to a recorded text inviting them to tune inward, noticing how and who they are in the moment. Later, they will quietly and slowly move towards each other while remaining tethered inward. Together, they will explore how it feels to co-create a gathering without relying on presentational modes.

This is a quiet session, with much of the afternoon unfolding without speech and no requirement to speak or make eye contact. Those who feel marginalized or silenced in mainstream spaces are especially warmly invited.

Drinks and snacks will be provided, and the session will end with a shared quiet feast. Participants are invited to bring their phone and headphones, as well as something for the final feast.

Covid testing
To help everyone feel comfortable and safe, please take a Covid test before the event; if you have symptoms, please do not attend and let us know so we can offer your spot to someone else. Tests and masks will be available at the venue.

Accessibility
· If I Can’t Dance is on the second floor, unfortunately, without elevator access. There is also a narrow staircase inside the space.
